Korean actress/model Song Hye Kyo is much more than another pretty face.  At just 28 years of age, she has exploded into the world of Korean television, not to mention a few films and modeling contracts.  At birth however, Song’s future did not look so bright.  She was born quite sick and because they did not believe she would survive, her parents registered her birth on February 26, 1982, although her actual birth date was November 22, 1981.

As if it were not enough of a miracle, Song did much more than survive.  In 1996 at just 15 years old, she found her way into the entertainment industry after winning a model search for SunKyung Smart, a popular school uniform company.  Shortly after, Song landed her first drama, Happy Morning which would precede a string of various dramas and sitcoms.  It was not until 2000, however that Song’s popularity swarmed Asia with the KBS drama, Autumn Fairy Tale. Also starring Song Seung-hun and Won-bin, the show depicted a tragic love triangle.  Soon after in 2003, Song’s success continued with the popular drama, All In.  This poker-themed show featured Song as the lead actress, along with Lee Byung Hun.  The on-screen coupling led to an off-screen romance that ended in 2005.

Song kept busy with her acting career as she played a supporting role in Sunlight Pours Down, yet another drama.  She later switched gears a bit with the popular comedy series, Full House. She co-starred with pop figure, Rain and the show had one of the highest ratings that year.  Song then went on to star in the movie, My Girl and I. Unfortunately, the film was not as popular as her previous television ventures.  After a two-year hiatus, Song gave film another try with the movie version of Hwang Jin-I, which was released in 2007.  The film was heavily promoted, but did not live up to its promise at the box office.

In 2008, Song returned to television in The World They Live In, a Miniseries for KBS2.  After filming, Song begun dating her co-star, Korean actor Hyun Bin.  Later that year at the 2008 Cannes Festival, it was announced by Director John Woo that Song would star in the film 1949, alongside actor Chang Chen, from Taiwan.  The film is set to release sometime this year, in 2010.

In spite of her busy acting career, Song still remains very involved with the modeling industry.  She has appeared in many television commercials over the years and is currently the primary model for Laneige.  She has also appeared as the face of Levi (Lady Style), Etude, Whitea, Aritaum, Nintendo DS (Animal Crossing), Roem and McDonald’s (Ice Cream).

Since she first entered the spotlight in 1996, Song has won an impressive amount of awards for modeling, television and film.  From 1996 through 2008, she has taken home a total of 14 which include such categories as Best Newcomer Award, Most Popular Actress, Top Korean Star, Best Actress and Best Couple.  With new film projects on the horizon, there is no telling what accomplishments she may have in store.
